Franz Botré
Swan Group

Franz Botré is President of the Swan Group, Publisher and Managing Director of Arbiter, SpiritoDiVino, Spirito diVino Asia (distributed in Hong Kong, China and South East Asia), Kairόs the new quarterly publication dedicated to the world of watches, Mestieri d’Arte & Design (in collaboration with the Cologni Foundation and Vacheron Constantin).
He has nurtured a lifelong passion for communication and the printed word.
He was born on 26 January 1955 in Bresso (Milan). At 14 years of age he began working as a typesetter and discovered his passion for communication. He attended night school and became a printer, then a lithographer, a photo-lithographer, and a graphic artist, and then in 1980, he had his first experience in an editorial team as editor of the monthly magazine Gente Viaggi (Rusconi),
of which he subsequently became art director. His aesthetic refinement and his expertise on techniques and tools led to him being chosen to design the layout of the periodicals Il Piacere and Expression (the latter produced in collaboration with American Express). After Rusconi, he entered Rizzoli, where he oversaw the production of Brava Casa. He opened his own firm and launched the periodicals Express Gran Turismo, Orologi da Polso (dedicated to lovers of haute horlogerie) and Alfa Romeo World. He returned to Rusconi in 1989 to design the bi-weekly magazine Trendy. From 1991 to 2001 he worked in Class Editori, where he reached the positions of deputy director of the monthly magazine Class, creator and director of Gentleman, and central artistic director of the editorial group. In 2001 he left the Class Group to set up the Swan Group, a publishing house that launched the monthly Monsieur and the bi-monthly Spirito diVino. In September 2009 he took over the production of Protagonist, the celebrated quarterly magazine published by the Ferretti Group. In April 2015 the experience accrued in Monsieur paid off in Arbiter, a new monthly focussing on “male pleasures and virtues”, a project that has breathed new life into a historic Italian publication (founded in 1934), whose objective is to report on and accompany the development of Italian manufacturing around the world. In 2016 he launched the magazine Kairόs, which relates the quality and the emotion of time through the instrument we use for measuring our lives: the watch. For advertising sales in these new projects, he is flanked by Manzoni SpA, a licensee of the Espresso-La Repubblica group.
