Sherriff became an MW in 1993 and was chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine from 2010 to 2012. Sherriff was Chairman of China and Japan Wine Challenge Wine Competitions and DWWA judge since 2004. She was awarded by the Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, for her contribution to wine education, from Masi Foundation Award, Verona Italy for contribution to international wine education and nominated as one of the 50 most influential people in the world of wine by Wine Intelligence, UK. Valentina was born in 1977, of a family of wine growers of Serdiana, in the countryside of southern Sardinia, close to Cagliari. From a very early age she was involved in the Winery’s life, playing among the wine barrels and the crates of harvested grapes, and witnessing for more than thirty years the history of her family’s enterprise. The Winery’s founder was her paternal grandfather, the clan’s Patriarch, who even after handing the family business over to his children remained its bedrock until the ripe old age of 103.
Valentina, who holds a degree in Business Studies, handles the Winery’s marketing and PR. Her role is to spread the word about the Argiolas wines and tell their history, the land they stem from and the dedication that goes into their crafting. The Winery focuses on Sardinia’s traditional and native grape varieties, including those lesser known outside the island, such as Nuragus, Monica, Bovale and Nasco, and this requires dedication to promoting their qualities.
Valentina has two small children and so, as all working mothers with a demanding position, she has become adept at running a busy schedule, making sure everything fits in smoothly. She hopes that her children will inherit from the family Patriarch both vision and passion.
One thing she is sure of: soon enough they too will play hide and seek among the great wine barrels which once were her grandfather’s.

Born in 1963, Ettore Nicoletto graduated in Economics and Business Studies from Ca’ Foscari University in Venice and immediately became fascinated by the world of wine. He began his career at the beginning of the 1990s, working for Casa Vinicola Zonin, where he held various positions, including that of Export Director from 2000 to 2003.
In 2004 he moved to the Santa Margherita Wine Group in order to restructure the company’s export department and sales network in Italy, as well as reprogramming its product portfolio. In 2005 he was appointed Director General, with the goal of rationalizing the Group’s activities and creating optimum coordination between its subsidiary companies.
In 2008 came his appointment as CEO, with the aim of projecting the Group towards new trading dimensions, through both organic growth and the acquisition of new businesses.
He also holds the position of CEO of the following companies in the Santa Margherita Wine Group: Ca’ del Bosco – Società Agricola, SM Tenimenti S.r.l., Tenute Santa Margherita – Società Agricola, Cà Maiol srl – Società Agricola e Cantina Mesa srl. Hopping into the office and then into the vineyards of Regaleali, taking a moment in between to sail with his family or jump over to Rome — he is not someone who sits still for very long. Alberto is a man of diversity — both in his life and talents, but also with a great value for biodiversity in the ecosystems of Tasca d’Almerita’s estates and vineyards. He has eyes always set on the horizon, jumping from project to project, planting seeds of innovation where ever he can. With his great love for Sicily and roots dug deep into the territory, Alberto shares his respect of the territory, the people, the culture and the environment no matter where he finds himself. In the past decade, Alberto — acting as a Christopher Columbus of Sicilian winemaking — explored and expanded the company’s estates to four other locations, each one a place with distinct characteristics and great potential. With Alberto’s lead, Tasca d’Almerita now has roots set on the island of Salina, Mozia, Mount Etna, and Monreale — each place producing unique wines that capture the soul of the place, as Regaleali has always done.

And evidently, he has always been a man on the move — as a young man, Alberto obtained his MBA, while also training as an automobile racer, eventually winning second place in the Italian Championship Formula Europe of 1992. It was soon after that Alberto brought his strong work ethic and curious mind to his family’s wine business. In 1993, he became an official member and, as tradition goes, began working his way from the — bottom up — beginning with two years in the vineyards. He then moved up as Commercial Director of Conte Tasca d’Almerita Spa in 2000 and succeeded to improve the system with a complete reorganization, introducing a personalized system and innovation. It was under the leadership of Alberto that the team was the first in the wine industry to introduce this use of technology in the ordinary management of the company — including computerized management system and the use of the internet for management, communications, orders, etc.
In 2001, Alberto became the CEO of the Tasca d’Almerita company, immediately succeeding in obtaining the “Best Case Informatic System in Wine” by Microsoft. Since 2004, Alberto continued to succeed in leading the Administration of the company, followed by the Marketing, and eventually the Commercial Production.

Born in Rome in 1969. Conducts his studies in Italy, Switzerland and England where he graduates with a degree in Economics from UCL. Pursues different career paths: credit analyst in an investment bank in the City of London; advertising manager in a major international advertising agency based first in London and subsequently in Milan; manager and PR for a well known contemporary artist with an important wine producing estate. In 2011 passes the IAP exam in order to become a qualified agricultural entrepreneur and acquires a 45-hectare estate in San Casciano dei Bagni, Tuscany containing a 1-hectare vineyard of pinot noir, thus giving rise to the Azienda Agricola Franchetti Carlo. The ideal pedoclimatic conditions for the cultivation of the pinot noir grape lead to encouraging oenologic results and to further investments for the extension of the vineyards and for the construction of a new winery. In 2013 produces the first pinot noir vintage named Sancaba. In 2014, together with his cousin Andrea Franchetti, forms the Vini Franchetti SRL holding company to better market and distribute the wines produced by each other’s estates.

Prof. Corsi has been the chief investigator of some major projects funded by Wine Australia examining the effects of non-price promotions in store, tracking the ever-changing Chinese wine market, improving the techniques to describe wines to Asian consumers, and exploring the most effective ways to teach them about wine. Since then he became independent and wrote several books and articles concerning food, wine and enogastronomic tourism for the most prestigious newspapers published by Rizzoli, Mondadori, Touring Club, Domus, as well as publications of the European Community and Italian local administrations. He took part in the team of the prestigious magazine Natura Oggi. He has created the Guide Gourmet series and the Guide to the Italian Wineries and Wines (Guida alle Cantine e ai Vini d’Italia) published by Mondadori; he collaborated in the Guide of the Association “Cities of Wine” (Guida dell’Associazione Città del Vino). A well-known mycologist, he founded several mycological groups and naturalistic and culinary holiday schools as “Osservare la Natura”. President in the 70s of Circoli della Libertà (cultural association which counted among the same members Enzo Tortora), is also President of the Academy of Ghiotte Erbe, and currently chairman of Accademia delle 5T (Territory, Tradition, Typicity, Transparency, Traceability), on whose behalf he directed the magazine “Italian Tastes”, obtaining a prestigious award for cultural activities from the ANCI and Associazione Nazionale del Libro. He has won several journalistic awards, including the 2000 Betti Prize at Vinitaly. September 2011 – June 2012 Mediamarkt, Bergamo Mediamarkt is a German multinational electronics and domestic appliance retailer with 11,000 employees and about 120 shops in Italy (including the outlets Mediaworld and Saturn). Roberta covered the role of HR Operations Manager coordinating all organisational, personnel and development activities as well as the cost control process in all the shops. Furthermore she was invited by Metro, the German parent company, to represent Italy in an international working group made up of the most important human resources directors aimed at developing the ‘GROW’ project. Born in Monleale on December 6th, 1955, to a family of farmers. In a village, where both his paternal and maternal uncles lived; Walter’s family life drew on the pearls of life, which proved fundamental in his personal and professional upbringing. The most significant person to him was Uncle Giuseppe, who had always partnered with his father, Augusto, in the company he now leads today with his sister Paola and Uncle Renato. Renato, the brother of his mother, Teresita, was born in 1922. Renato is a true winemaker, from which Walter tried to steal every detail of vineyard and winery management. After gaining the title of “Winemaker” at the Oenological School of Alba in 1976, Walter began by making himself available to all the agricultural cantinas of Tortonese; collaborating to solve situations considered problematic by farmer’s “critiques”. Working with about 20 companies since the late 90s, Walter has spent his years of qualification and credibility to radically change thoughts on Tortonese winemaking from using a constellation of winemakers to instead focusing on excellence that comes from using fewer, but highly-qualified winemakers that are ready to face the markets. Dario Stefano is a Senator of the Italian Republic, first elected in 2013 with “La Puglia in più”, he was later reelected in 2018 with the Democratic Party. He was also a member of Puglia’s regional board (2005-2013), and responsible for agricultural activities as a council member for the Puglia region. As President of the council for agricultural activities, he also attended the “Conferenza delle regioni”. Coming from Salento, Stefano is originally from Otranto but lives in Lecce with his wife Paola and kids Dante and Daria. With a business background, he is a lecturer at Unisalento, in the School of Legal Disciplines and the Environmental Sciences course. As a manager, he mainly dealt with the internationalization of companies and the environment. During the XVII legislation, he was President of the Elections Council and group leader for the Agricultural Commission of Palazzo Madama. He presented substantial bills like the proposal for the establishment of a parliamentary commission to investigate the phenomenon of “caporalato”, the bill to contrast “caporalato”, the bill to introduce “History and Culture of wine” in elementary schools, and the first regulation for enotourism (later became law in 2018). In the current legislature, he presented a bill for enoturism’s arrangement to be extended to the oil sector.

Chris Scott is an award-winning wine communicator and presenter with a lively and energetic style and down-to-earth approach to wine. He runs wine tasting company ThirtyFifty and produces a weekly wine podcast, The UK Wine Show, which is consistently ranked in the top 10 iTunes Food & Drink Podcast chart. Born and bred in New Zealand, Chris spent time as a student working hands-on in the vineyards of Canterbury before graduating with first class honours in engineering. He moved to London in 2001 to begin his wine studies before setting up ThirtyFifty in 2002. He has the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines & Spirits which is the WSET’s flagship qualification. Chris now heads up a team of 20 wine experts across the UK, between them running over 500 corporate events, wine courses and private tastings per year. Born in Siena in 1953 Donatella graduated in History of medieval art with top marks. After a period of five years devoted to historic and artistic studies in 1984, she began working on the family estate where she stayed for 14 years. In 1993 Donatella Cinelli Colombini founded the “Wine Tourism Movement”. The same year she invented ‘Cantine Aperte’, the day that in a few years brought success to wine tourism in Italy. Donatella also promoted the first courses for specialist in wine tourism, and now teaches the techniques for changing wineries into a tourist destination in postgraduate master courses regarding tourism and farming management. In 1998 her parents gave her Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda with its beautiful country inn, and Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino (Tuscany) where she has created two wineries and a production of high-quality wines. These wineries are the first in Italy with a female staff. Now they produce 170.000 bottles per year and export their wines in 34 foreign countries. From 2001 to 2011 Donatella Cinelli Colombini she was the Tourism Councillor at the Siena Town Hall. Among her achievements is “Trekking urbano” a new kind of tourism sport, which was exported from Siena to the rest of Italy. As a board member of the Etna DOC consortium, he is deeply involved with the DOC’s policies and its future. Not content to stay on one side of Etna, Graci has bought vineyards on the little planted west side of the mountain, and in 2017 created a joint venture with Angelo Gaja to produce wines on Etna’s Southwestern face at Biancavilla.

Roberto Gaudio, graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Turin with a thesis in enology on malolactic fermentation, is freelance professional agronomist Doctor since 1985. In 2011 he has been nominated by the Aosta Valley Autonomous Region as President of Cervim and reconfirmed for two mandates. He coordinated the organization of International Congresses on Mountain Viticulture and in Steep Slope, held in 2012 in Lyon (France), in 2017 in Conegliano (Italy) and in 2018 in Tenerife (Spain). Since 1978 Riccardo Ricci Curbastro works in the family winery (Azienda Agricola Gualberto Ricci Curbastro & sons) in Capriolo, near Brescia, in the Franciacorta area. From May 1998 he is the President of FEDERDOC, the national Federation of Consortiums protecting origin wines. He has worked both as a member and in leading roles in various Italian and European wine trade associations. Abroad, for exaple, he has served as the President of EFOW, the European Federation of Origin Wines from 2010 to 2016. He is the president of Equalitas since 2015. In 2009 he was nominated by the Italian President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. In 2013 he also received the title of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. He is also an amateur ornithologist and a naturalist photographer and he has collaborated on various fieldwork research projects with the WWF. Diego Tomasi is currently covering the Research position by CREA-VE “Research Centre for Viticulture and Enology” in Conegliano (TV – Italy). Since his enrolment, his research has focused on the relationship between the vine and its environment. Nunzio Castaldo has been a driving force for the growth of Italian wines in the United States market for over 32 years. Nunzio began his career at Winebow where he joined in 1986 as a sales representative covering Italian restaurants in Manhattan. In 1994, he created Winebow’s first Italian Sales Division,maximizing the sales of the Leonardo LoCascio Selections portfolio in the New York metropolitan market. Mr. Castaldo was promoted to Regional Manager of New Jersey and New York in 1997. In 2002, Mr. Castaldo was promoted to Senior Vice President of Imports at Winebow, in which he oversaw supplier relationships and contract negotiations for import portfolios. In 2014, with the merger of Winebow and The Vintner Group, Mr. Castaldo became Senior Vice President, Portfolio Management of Leonardo LoCascio Selections, one of the three national import business units of the newly formed The Winebow Group. In 1981 he founded Riccardo Cotarella Srl, a wine-growing and wine-making consultancy company of which he is the general manager. A natural interest in wine led Luc Desroches to join ‘Les amities Bachiques’ in 1982, before starting his career in the wine trade proper at Quebec wine merchant ‘Vins Philippe Dandurand’ in 1987. Born in 1959, married and father of two sons, Luc is a graduate in Sports and Leisure Management from Old Montreal College (1981) and has a degree in Marketing Management from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario (1999).
In 1991, he was appointed Sales and Marketing Director of Maison Remy & Associés. A company restructure saw him appointed as Vice-President Quebec. Under his management, Maison Remy became the premier wine & spirit agency in Quebec. In 1999, following an international merger, the company became Maison Maxxium and, in addition to his role as VP Quebec, Luc was appointed National Duty Free Manager for Maxxium Canada.
In 2001, Luc Desroches left the Maxxium group to join Masi Agricola as Commercial Director for the Americas. Company growth and expansion of the markets led to his appointment as Sales and Managing Director for the Americas and Asia Pacific region in 2014. Andrea is responsible for the SACE office in Verona that covers companies in Verona and Trentino Alto Adige for all SACE SIMEST products. He graduated in Economics and Management and in 2010 he obtained a Masters in Corporate Finance from SDA Bocconi.
After a brief period with the UniCredit sales network, Andrea began his career in export finance at SIMEST, a company that together with SACE constitutes the export and global hub of the CDP Group, focused on supporting the efforts of Italian companies that strive to operate at an international level, by offering low-interest loans as well as interest subsidies to support exports and the direct acquisition of shareholdings.
In SACE since 2011 he has held commercial positions with increasing responsibilities. During his career Andrea has contributed to the development of the SACE domestic network in various geographical areas of coverage in the North East from 2013. Since 2001 she has been with the ICE Agency, and has taken care of various activities such as: promotion abroad of Agri-food products of Emilia-Romagna (ICE Bologna), Technical Secretariat of the President of ICE, Prof. Beniamino Quintieri, Programme of financial contributions for feasibility studies abroad aimed at companies and universities. Since 2007 she has passionately dedicated herself to the promotion of Italian food products abroad, working in various markets, with trade and press, as well as projects dedicated to specific product categories of excellence related to the Made in Italy brand. In 2012 and 2013, during her time in Rome she obtained two Master’s degrees in Economics of Welfare and PA and in Organization and Operation of PA. Since October 2015, she has been responsible for the Food and Beverage sector at the ICE office in New York, which is responsible for projects promoting food and wine throughout the United States.
